Exclusive 1st Print Comics “Back to the Future” Cover!

1st Print Comics is pleased to announce our third exclusive cover. It’s been a while, since we did our TMNT #34 exclusive last June and the Nailbiter last September. We’ve been patiently waiting for the right project to bring another exclusive cover to you. Great Scott, we’ve found it!

Back to the Future #1 from IDW will release on BTTF Day, October 21, 2015; and we are excited to have our own cover for this new comic of the beloved movie franchise. Our store’s exclusive cover will release on the 21st, and we will do a full launch party on Saturday 10/24/15.

If you haven’t heard of this being a comic book again, IDW is doing a new five issue mini series for Back to the Future. It will focus on how Doc and Marty met and some of the back story that wasn’t really touched on in the films. The release is timed perfectly to coincide with the date that Marty traveled to in the second movie. The book is being overseen by Bob Gale who co-wrote the original movies and created the franchise with Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg. Gale will plot the book, with John Barber and Erik Burnham scripting, and interior art provided by Brent Schoonover and Dan Schoening.

We thought this was the perfect title to continue our exclusive cover series. The characters and movies are universally loved, and the movies hold up like few other sci-fi movies over 30 years old have. As a bonus, we were even able to have a little fun with the cover, satirizing comicdom’s love/hate relationship with the summer crossover events. On top of that, it has a low print run of only 1,300 copies, so it will be sought after by collectors nationwide.

Art for our exclusive cover is supplied by artist Ken Wheaton. Ken is a friend of our shop and a local Rochesterian. He’s contributed to several Simpsons books and comics, drew a number of Popeye comics, and has worked on comics and books featuring iconic properties such as Buckaroo Banzai, I Dream Of Jeannie, Kolchak:The Night Stalker, The Phantom, Mister Magoo, Futurama, and The Munsters. He has a broad range, and we are immensely proud of the cover he did for us. Take a minute and check out some of his work here: http://www.kenwheaton.com/portfolio

Saturday, October 24th, we will be hosting a launch party for the exclusive cover at our shop. Ken will be in shop to sign the book for anyone that wants one signed. He will be taking commissions as well. There will be blank sketch covers available. Ken will also have a few prints of his work available, and may have a new print for the launch.

COME DRESSED AS MARTY OR DOC. Get a free dollar bin book, and get entered in our costume contest! Best Marty and Best Doc will each win a $25 gift certificate. We also have games and raffles planned. Further details will be announced as the launch party approaches.

We will be open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and hope we get to see you there.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Have Landed in Rochester!

We are very proud to announce the pending release of an exclusive variant cover to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #34 on June 4, 2014. The cover features all four of the Ninja Turtles preparing for battle with components of the downtown Rochester skyline behind them and their nemesis Shredder looming in the background.

The cover was drawn by up and coming local artist Salvador Otero for first exclusive variant. “We wanted to bring Rochester to comic books as no one else had before, and we knew that Sal could do just that. Once we chose a Ninja Turtles cover and told Sal we wanted to incorporate Rochester, he knocked it out of the park” said owners Mike Ringelberg and Dave Inguagiato. Featuring the Chase Tower, Freddie Sue Bridge, Clinton Square Building, Bausch & Lomb Tower and Excellus BCBS, the Turtles are unmistakably going to defend our city.

Created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the Turtles are having a banner year in 2014. Not only is it their 30th has been going for about 3 years, and is written by Eastman. There is a top rated cartoon on Nickelodeon, and a looming movie reboot later this summer.

Salvador is a truly talented artist with a unique style. Born and raised in Rochester, he graduated School of the Arts in 2004. He has been drawing and illustrating since he was 8 years old. He is trained in fine arts, painting, illustration and pen & ink. A true testament to his talent, since a serious back injury in 2009, he has had to relearn to draw.

The book is due to release June 4, 2014, but there will be an official release party Saturday June 7, the cover at no charge. Limited to 1000 copies, this is a true collector’s item, for both those that collect comics and collectors of Rochester memorabilia. Anniversary, the latest comic title (that this custom cover graces) 2014 with Sal at 1st Print Comics from 10AM to 4PM, available to sign the cover at no charge. Limited to 1000 copies, this is a true collector’s item, for both those that collect comics and collectors of Rochester memorabilia.
